For the first time, Special Olympics Oman is sending female athletes to compete at #Austria2017! Raya, who is part of a 4 person snowshoeing team, is determined to make her country proud!
Snowshoeing is challenging to train for in Oman, and this will only be the second time the program is competing in a World Winter Games. For Raya, most of her training occurred by strapping on her snowshoes & running on the sand!
Raya, 27 years old, is the oldest member of her team. After, competing in Special Olympics for years in badminton, bowling and tennis, Raya welcomed the sport of snowshoeing as a new challenge.
Although she is a little nervous to travel far from home, Raya says that her SO coaches & volunteers have become her "second family."
We can't wait to watch Raya go for gold at Special Olympics World Games 2017!
