Rim Abu Zahra of Jordan won a gold medal in roller skating at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles. Now she's trading roller skate for ice skates to compete in her first winter games.
She joined Special Olympics Jordan in 2012 when she was 12 and trained in roller skating and athletics. She showed great motivation and performance and she participated in many national competitions and received a lot of gold, silver and bronze medals till she was chosen to represent her country in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. There she won a gold medal in the 100 meters in roller skating and a silver medal in the 300 meters.
In January, Rim will compete in speed skating in the Pre-Games for the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games. The Pre-Games from 10-15 January in Austria is a test of many systems that will be used in 2017 for the actual World Winter Games. She is very interested to go as it’s her first participation in winter games.
Rim’s family is very proud and they said that Special Olympics positively affects her life as she become more confident and social.
