The 2nd Regional MENA Games was held in Rabat, Morocco from 11 to 17 October 2000 under the auspices of His Majesty King Mohamed Sixth of Morocco.
More than 225 athletes representing 11 countries competed in four sports; Athletics, Girls’ Basketball, Football and Table-Tennis at the Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat.
The participating programs were Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan. SO Morocco President Lala Amina was keen to follow all the event preparations with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The opening ceremony was held at the Moulay Abdallah Stadium and came as a reflection of the Moroccan heritage. Speeches were delivered at the opening ceremony by: HRH Lala Amina, Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Al-Mousawy and Dr Ismail Osman, Head of the Regional Advisory Council.
